National Minimum Wage update

October 4, 2016 9:28 pm Published by

You may be aware that on 1 October 2016 the national minimum wage has increased for the different age bands and apprentices.

The national minimum wage is the minimum pay per hour almost all workers are entitled to.

It doesn’t matter how small an employer is, they still have to pay the correct minimum wage. The minimum wage an employee is entitled depends upon their age and the changes made are as follows:

  • An increase to the minimum hourly rate for 21-24 year olds from £6.70 to £6.95.
  • The minimum hourly rate for 18-20 year olds will increase to £5.55 from £5.30
  • The apprentice rate will rise to £3.30 from £3.40

There have been no changes to the national living wage rate of £7.20 for over 25s
